the web quest seems very interesting but yet simple. i can see that being used in the classroom to enhance the learning process. I think I'm gonna place my kit in a web quest instead which might mean a bit more work after i thought i was done but hey... nothing comes easy

REFLECTION

I am not one who would be considered ICT enabled however since being a part of this technology class, I have become such an individual. I was not very found of having to take this technology class, mostly because this course carried no credits and seemed like a waste of my time. In addition, while I knew that ICTS' in the classroom would be an effective teaching/learning tool, iI was not all for the idea. But here I am ready to return to the classroom and willing to put into action all that I was taught and all that I learnt. It was not always easy but many factors contributed to my success in various new areas.

The atmosphere in the classroom was very relaxed and comfortable and as a result I sometimes found myself lost; I was either asleep or dreaming. The hands-on activities which required us to reproduce what we learnt helped in many ways to bring me into perspective. It was as difficult as it was fun at times trying to ensure that whatever project I was working on reflected my learning and Mr. Emmanuel's teaching.

I am happy that I was able to do this course. It certainly taught me a lot. I look forward to using it not only in the classroom but in other areas as well as teaching others what I learnt.

Big Thank you goes out to Mr. Emmanuel for his patience in teaching. You certainly made it worth the effort, although I did "try" to make it difficult; lol!!!. Lo paso bombo! Thank you Mr. Emmanuel.

reflection

During the of the term, i learnt alot in technology class, most of which i will apply into my classroom, home, and sunday school class. i found that this course was beneficial to me as both a teracher and a mom.
I take this opportunity to thank Mr. Emmanuel for his effort and time spent with me, us.

Objectives, Julia, Claude, Celeste

Students should be able to:

1. In approximately 2 sentences, define the term 'bearings' in their own words.
2. Explain, based on experiences gained in the class, how bearings are used, in a short paragraph.
3. Use bearings to move from one place to another within the school's perimeter in small groups.
4. State three or four applications of bearings in everyday life.

Reflection

This has been one of the sujects that i enjoy the most. I have learnt so much that i will definately use the ICts when i return to the class room. Sir I like the friendly environment u created for your class. You always give us the opportunity to share our ideas.

I can now look at technology in a different light. All the activities you have given us to do, has helped me and my creative.

Reflection

Technology in Education has been more fun than anything else I could imagine.

At first I was turned off at the idea of doing technology especially since I didn't consider myself to be computer savvy and just the fact that I thought it was going to be a terrible experience for me.

I had loads of fun and enjoyed creating powerpoint presentations, posters, movies etc even if my groups movie may have been on the awful side lol but it was fun none the less.

I also enjoyed giving mr.emmanuel hell...just kidding sir but it was nice working with you.

I do hope thought that at the end of this all I will certainly be applying what I learned in the classroom!

Hey guys,

Thus far for our multimedia kit we have been able to create a blog site where students will go to upload their videos and images and any other ideas which are linked to the creation of their portfolio for the planned vacation.

Please do take the time out to visit...all comments and suggestions are welcomed but please remember that it is a part of the multimedia kit which has to be referenced in our assignment.

Reflection

I must admit that I enjoyed this course.I appreciated the open and friendly atmosphere.It has served as my haven away from long lectures and readings, particularly since there was no exam to look forward to at the end of the semester. I enjoyed discussions (although they did carry on for quite sometime) since we were always given an opportunity to share our views. Also, they proved to be very informative. I learned new skills as well as how to apply these in my teaching. This course changed my views on what learning and teaching should really be. It has made me enthusiastic about returning to the classroom with the intention of making a difference.

Reflections

Learning about technology has been fun.
It has taught me alot about how to use various technologies in the classroom to stimulate students interest

Objective for our multi media kit - Charles, Ashely and Jules

Objectives: Students should be able to;

1] Identify general and personal safety requirements in workshops and worksites by discussing the dangers of not observing them.

2] Demonstrate an understanding of safety rules and procedures by following them based on rules and regulations for workshops and worksites.

3] Use real life examples to show an appreciation of safety materials, tools, equipment, gears and accesories and their applicability to various situations

- Identify safety materials, tools, equipment, gears and accesories

- Demonstrate the safe use of materials tools and equipment.

We've decided to change our idea for the multimedia kit.
Instead of creating the interactive DVD (which would be time consuming)we decided to create a webquest which will be the central part of our lesson plan.A WebQuest, as implied by the name, is an inquiry-based, on-line learning activity. (It includes a process in which students will use the internet to complete various task).
In the end students will reflect on the process. It is this reflection that we will assess using a reflection rubric.

Downloadable worksheet
Hyperlink to interactive games/ quizz
Student blog

Multimedia idea for Kerri, Petula and Janelle's group

We are thinking of doing a shopping spree. The students will be exposed to vocabulary that pertains to shopping for food, clothes and shoes. We will have pictures and dialogues available and we will also have a blog available to encourage interaction. In addition, we were thinking of building a mini website. On the central page, we will have the 'centre commercial' or the mall. Coming from the mall will be different aspects of shopping. Upon clicking on the different icons representing the different aspects of shopping, it will take the students to a new page. On that page, a dialogue will be seen and heard helping them to understand how they should ask basic questions when shopping.

multimedia kit

the multimedia kit will comprise of a lesson plan, a word document which will define and explain tourism and other related terms. a powerpoint presentation will then come into play by explain with pictures a selected tourism niche and the various tourism products as well as the negative aspects of the nice and also possible solutions to overcome the negative aspects. a video will then be shown to the students which will targeted at attracting a specific tourist market. the students will then be given an evaluation exercise based on the multimedia kit

Mutimedia Kit (Stephanie, Nial and Junior)

Topic: Plane Geometry, Triangles
Our intention is to make a series of videos demonstrating the various methods of constructing triangles.
Example: Constructing triangles given two angles and the length of one side.
The videos will aslo highlight what not to do when constructing triangles.
Those videos will be incorperated into power point presentations together with other content which will be used during lessons.
For assessment purposes we will also devolop worksheets as well as a short game on visual basic.
To reinforce what is taught in class we will also creat a web page where these vidoes as well as other resources will be made available for students to view at their convenience.

Im Wondering....

What about the way in which the Kit itslef will be presented. Is everything going to be on the Blog or is it going to be on a Cd eg the lesson with the verbs and the documents and the lodging and is the planned vacation (culminating activity) going to be on the blog??

I mean the ideas are there but the presentation of the kit itself...what is the format???

Maybe Im lost or confused or mistaken..... please assist me

i am not sure how many objectives we should have in the lesson plan, but so far in an attempt to follow the advice of the assure model, we come up with the following objective.
Objectives- students should be able to: 1. plan a weeks vacation to a spanish destination.

we also came up with a list of prerequisites to help us narrow down the information we will be teaching to what students don't already know and what we need to revise.
the information came under four or five headings; 1. vocabulary that they should know, 2. material that they should be able to read and comprehend, 3. knowledge of using the computer, 4. conjugate verbs in three tense. we have decided to view this lesson as part of our culminating activity.

if there is anything missing or which should not be there please feel free to say so.

Thank you Mr. Emmanuel, this idea did come up during our discussions. We have written the objectives for the lesson. Your last class on the assure model did help a lot. Here are the objectives:
Students should be able to
1. Define in their own words the term production within the Business Studies concept.
2. Identify four types of production which is practiced in the Caribbean.
3. In one paragraph, explain with the use of examples,each type of production which exists in St.Lucia.

Multimedia Kit

Topic: Trigonometry Subtopic: Bearings
We have decided to do the topic bearings. Our plan is to use a power point with graphics, sound and video clippings as the introduction, to develop the lesson students will be be taken outdoors to determine the bearings of certain objects from one point using the materials they will be provided with. We are unsure of how we can include interactive media within the lesson. Students will be interacting with the materials and knowledge through games ( a treasure hunt).

i'm wondering...does the lesson plan have to incorporate the entire multimedia kit or are we to use parts of the kit in the lesson?

The kit will be saved on a DVD and through this students will be able to have an individual copy where they can view the Powerpoint, listen to and watch Audio/Video containing examples of different advertisements. With the Audio and Video, there will be an area on the kit where students will be able to critique what they have just heard or seen. The kit will also comprise of pictures, practice activities and questions that students could use to test their knowledge after they have gone through the Kit.

As Business students we will be developing a Multimedia Kit for teaching the concept of Promotion (Advertising) as part of Marketing. The kit will be developed for students at the age of 14-16 and will only be developed for Promotion because these students have the prequisite skills of the first three P's in Marketing. In developing this kit, we will be making the use of video, Powerpoint and Audio to explain Promotion.

yes i know that i should not be the one doing the creating.I was thinkin more of allowing the user of the kit to use word to give and explanation of the assignment then allow the students to give and explanation of the tourism market chosen and what does the commercial appeal to in that particular tourism niche. finally they will design the commercial using windows movie maker or other similar software. the commercial ofcourse must incorporate the appeals that were list in the powerpoint.

multimedia kit

I got an idea that im not sure about for the kit. Its about tourism and it would require the use of word, powerpoint and movie maker. It will require the students to use these programs to explain what is tourism, the importance of tourism to St. lucia and to design a 30 second commericial that can be used to promote St. Lucia's tourism product to any desired tourist market. Can anyone tell me if i am heading in the right direction ?

Idea for Multimedia Kit

Area of Interest: Spanish
Topic: Planeando por las vacaciones (Planning a Vacation)

We have decided that we are going to target a form 3 class and we are going to expose them to 'el mundo hispanico'/ the spanish world. This will be done using a Wiki where students will choose their own travel destination of interest and prepare a portfolio of this destination including information such as:
(1) what documents they need
(2) what form of transport they will use to and from the airport
(3) where they will be staying
(4) length of stay
(5) time of year they will be travelling (summer, winter, spring)
(6) places of interest (tourist sites; national parks, museums, zoos)

With the Wiki the stuents should be able to interact with eachother correcting and commenting on each others travel destination . Microsoft Powerpoint will be used to show the pictures of travel documents and forms of transport using graphics whilst videos will be used to give students an insight into some of the places of interest that they may visit.

Any more suggestions or ideas are welcomed :-)

A Real Eye-Opener

This technology in education course has been a real eye opener. With each new aspect, and the skills revived from the cobwebs and archives, I have found ways to teach children innovatively. I can sincerely say that the talk and chalk fright is growing less and less for me. Hopefully, this blog will aid in clarifying and addressing all and any of my concerns. I look forward to a good semester.
